Edward Burtynsky is a highly accomplished contemporary photographer known for his photographic depictions of global industrial landscapes. His work, which represents over 40 years of dedication to bearing witness to the impact of human industry on the planet, is included in the collections of over 80 major museums around the world. Born in 1955 in St. Catharines, Ontario, of Ukrainian heritage, Burtynsky received his BAA in Photography/Media Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University in 1982 and founded Toronto Image Works in 1985. His imagery explores the collective impact of human systems on natural landscapes and has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions worldwide.
